The industrial, hazard, and jagged lines of the location really makes clear the beauty of Raf's Chambost inspired curves.
It's this type of approach that I admire most in the work of a stylist. The ability to identify a garments design properties - which in this case, is the combination of fluidity and structure in a single garment - and highlight its importance through visual means. I recently read that a wealth of couture and traditional tailoring techniques were used in-order to construct the sculptural curves within these Jil Sander pieces, like horse hair canvas, hand stitching etc. It's such a remarkable feat of technical skill and design integrity.
I'm really thrilled that we get a sense of that beauty in this editorial. Through these photos I can identify both the structure of the tailoring and the softness of the curves. They both become very evident.
Additionally, Iekelinge's movements are incredible, and I feel that they mimic the garments in a way. Positioned somewhere between the rigid and malleable.
Congratulations Simon (and the ENTIRE TEAM!), this is brilliant.
